One of the world’s biggest porn stars says she used to be a "loner".

While Sara St Clair is a video game nerd and a bookworm away from the camera, she has a much sexier alter-ego called 'Hardcore Barbie'.

The 31-year-old, who has a degree in journalism, told Daily Star: "The Barbie look has always been an inspiration for my style and when I got into porn.

"I didn’t slowly work my way up with content, one of my first scenes was a gangbang so Hardcore Barbie just kinda fit."

After starting nude modelling aged 18, Sara has gone on to be nominated multiple times for ‘Hottest MILF’ at the AVN Awards.

But her nerdy passions haven't totally been left behind – as she's now embracing her literature passion by writing a book called Romance Costs Extra.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Star, Sara opened up about the lesser-known facts about her.

“I have always been a video game nerd for as long as I can remember,” she laughed.

“I prefer easy things like Minecraft that don't need lots of attention and I can kind of just let my brain rest while I play.

“I was so shy growing up and I kept to myself and would consider myself a loner. I didn’t have many friends so books became my best friends. I am a huge bookworm.

“I eventually wanted to teach literature or English purely out of passion for great stories. I went to The Ohio State University and started off as an English major but eventually finished with journalism.

“I love learning and miss being in school still.

Her nude modelling career was launched when she was just 18

Sara’s raunchier path was inspired when she saw an ad on Criagslist looking for nude models.

She was booked for shoots and she also made money as a topless dancer during university.

As for how her family reacted, she said: “They didn’t love it and even now it’s the white elephant in the room.

“They appreciate that I am happy and secure but they’d obviously wish I was doing something more vanilla.”

And asked whether she considered being a full time writer, she replied: “In a perfect world I would be the bimbo Hemmingway.”

Sara, from Birmingham, Alabama, said nude photoshoots naturally led to fetish modelling before she became an adult star.

Reflecting now on her decision, she said: “I wouldn’t trade it.

“I love the attention and I get off to being watched. Plus, have you seen how hot some of my co-stars are? Sometimes I have to remind myself it is work.

“I’m naturally a very sexual person and I’ve always been attracted to the barbie look, big boobs and blonde hair.

“So being a porn star really just feels like home to me. I definitely feel a sense of belonging with sex work that I don’t get from other areas of work. For once I feel like I fit in.”

She added: “I had no hesitation at the start. I’m the type to act now and think about the consequences later.

“It’s a lot more safer and regulated than what I was expecting in regards to how often we test and such.

“Despite having more sexual partners I feel much safer in that all my partners are tested every few days which is certainly something I never had in my vanilla life.”

A preview of her upcoming book

Poverty was a daily reality for Sara growing up and although her loved ones would prefer she chose another field, she said they are happy she is financially free and independent.

And she is now putting her writing background to good use with her upcoming book called Romance Cost Extra.

She described it as her “pride and joy” and it is a fictional novel about a girl who purses sex work and it is influenced by Sara’s own experiences.

“I am over the moon thrilled,” she said. “I am so excited about this book.

“The editors are loving the material and already are asking if I’m planning to do another book.

“It’s almost as exciting as shooting a porno. I guess in a sense it’s a lot like that, I expose myself for other people’s entertainment and that gives me a great deal of excitement.”
