Even though he enjoyed strong feedback to his Sweet Personality rhythm five years ago, producer Garfield Cowan believed he could improve on some of the songs featured on it. Those, and more, can be heard on Reggae Hits Vol 1, released last Friday by his Nature's Way Entertainment label.Sweet Personality was spurred by Wayne Wonder's Let Me Love You Tonight and Wake Up, a big hit for Jah Cure. Songs from Richie Spice, Lutan Fyah and Alva, a longt-ime member of the Nature's Way camp, were also released on the Sweet Personality. There are fresh takes on Let Me Love You Tonight and Wake Up on the new compilation. “I did over some of the songs because I see there was room for improvement in the production and to give the songs a longer life,” Cowan explained. The tweaks are not limited to the Sweet Personality tracks. Others, like Alva's St Ann We Come From, which was recorded when Cowan kicked off his career as a producer eight years ago, also get a facelift. Cowan said his growth in production influenced his decision to revisit these songs. “I was not pleased with the original sound. Lovers rock of the sweetest order is here again courtesy of the Nature’s Way Entertainment record label which released its Reggae Hits Vol. 1 album on Friday through VPAL, a subsidiary of VP Records. Producer Garfield Cowan and his artistes deliver the goods on this 19-song set which has a number of dance jams like Wayne Wonder’s Let Me Love You Tonight and Wake Up by Jah Cure. Those were hit tracks on the hot Sweet Personality riddim five years ago, and their remixes pack enough punch to keep rocking the dancefloor. There are also tracks from Richie Spice and Lutan Fyah, Busy Signal,Christopher Martin,Alva, as well as King Mas and Jemere Morgan, son of Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage. Free Up the Grades by King Mas out of Boston and Jemere Morgan is a salute to the good herb, that is bound to get those lighters, and spliffs, flashing all night. Natures Way Entertainment is back with a hot new ‘riddim’ that’s bound to get dancehall fans rocking. The Reggae Melodies Riddim, which is co-produced by DJ Timmy HMV, is being released on September 23.
It contains four songs — “I Belong to You” by Nyanda, “Love You The Same” from Ginjah, “Stand Firm” by I Noah and “Reggae Melodies” by Natures Way Entertainment.
Garfield Cowan, head of the South Florida-based label, said he began work on the project seven years ago. Like his previous productions, it has a bouncy, live feel.
“I love the live feel in my productions, because it gives the music more longevity and more feeling,” he said.
Cowan has produced several riddim compilations. The most successful was the Sweet Personality which drove club anthems such as “Let me Love You Tonight” by Wayne Wonder and “Wake Up” by Jah Cure.
The label has also produced songs by Alva, King Mas and Jemere Morgan. In 2021, it released the album, “Ginjah The Reggae Soul Man”, by Ginjah.
