Although it's still the middle of winter, it won't be long before farmers are out in the fields across the mountains.

Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP) kicked off its 2020 farm planning season on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020 at A-B Tech Conference Center with this year's "Business of Farming" conference.

ASAP Event Coordinator Amy DeCamp said the conference gives growers a chance to learn more about agribusiness and changes in the industry.

"We have helped farmers in that transition from tobacco to growing food, and helped to provide opportunities on new markets, connecting with grocers, restaurants," DeCamp said. "So we're definitely seeing more farmers connecting with direct markets."

The conference hosts more than a dozen workshops, led by growers and professionals who gather to help each other every year.
