This Sunday, September 2 at 10:00 am
Ever feel dry? Ever been in need of a fresh new light or to experience God’s love as a breathe of fresh air?

This Sunday we have an opportunity to listen and learn as The Spiritual Travelers present “Dem Bones” a creative look at the story of Ezekiel 37:1-14 intertwined with music.

As a response to this story, you are invited to refresh your spirit as we gather in fellowship after church for refreshments.

If you are looking for a bright new way to refresh your spirit, maybe now is the time to look into a way to connect within the Church. Maybe it’s signing up with our group looking at racism, or issues of border justice, or maybe you’d like to learn how to sing in our choir? No matter the way, consider your bones having received the breath of God and summoned for the purpose of bringing about the Culture of Heaven (formerly known as the Kingdom of God). — Bruce Wilson

Calling All Sunday School Teachers
Our children need teachers in Room 22 beginning in September. Julia Chase and Julia Peeler have volunteered for this delightful job. The curriculum is accessible and engaging.

The lessons, which can be taught with a little preparation, incorporate reading, games and activities.

Please consider joining in the fun! Sign up for one Sunday or sign up for more.

A BIG Thank you to Emily Hitchens for preparing and teaching most Sundays this summer. Having a loyal church member working with our children is a blessing to them and to our church. Give Emily a thank you when you see her. — Julia Peeler

From United Church of Christ News
Faith Witness at the Border
forging immigrant justice connections across UCC
More than 100 people from seven Conferences in the United Church of Christ, joined by members of three ecumenical partner Churches, are converging on the border town of Sahuarita, Ariz., for several days of study and service around immigrant justice.

The group heard from Nathan Watts, an associate minister at Good Shepherd UCC, talk about ‘prevention through deterrence’ — the increased militarization at the United States-Mexico Border, and the criminalization of people who cross the border — to make migration as difficult as possible. He talked about the U.S. government infrastructure and individuals set up to keep migrants out. He visually shared the ‘funnel effect’ of the border wall, using volunteers to show how U.S. policies are pushing people from the cities into more dangerous remote areas, where crossing not at a point of entry without a visa makes one arrestable and can lead to incarceration. It’s also a crime that negates one an opportunity to claim asylum.

“Not only are we trying to address the very physical deterrents,” Watts said, “we are challenging the mentality that makes this philosophy okay.”

Call for Liturgists
Thanks to everyone who has already signed up! Look for the fall assignments next week.

We've started work on the winter Liturgist Sunday Worship Schedule and invite anyone interested to add your name to the existing team!

Liturgists arrive by 9:30 am on their assigned Sunday to do a sound check. During worship, they read the Call to Worship (as assigned), the scripture passages and make a brief personal statement before the offertory.

You’ll receive the scripture text and Order of Worship in advance AND we’ll have a special Liturgist Binder for you on Sunday.

Give it a try! No experience needed. You'll be joining an existing group; liturgists typically serve one Sunday every third month, or so.

Contact the Church Office if you have any questions or to sign up.
